10 Ways to Boost Google Reviews for Your Restaurant

A proven playbook to lift your Google rating from 4.0 to 4.6+ in 90 days — without a single fake review.

Your Google rating is now the single biggest driver of restaurant foot traffic — bigger than location, menu or price. Every 0.1-star increase correlates with a 5–9% revenue lift. Here's the playbook we've used with over 100 venues to climb from 4.0 to 4.6+ in 90 days.

1. Ask immediately after a good experience

The emotional peak is the moment after dessert. Not three days later via email. Qoro's post-order review prompt asks on the spot — and completions run 8–10× higher than delayed asks.

2. Route happy guests to Google, sad guests internally

This is the single most important move. A 4-or-5-star response leads to a Google review link. A 1, 2 or 3-star response opens a private feedback form. You address the issue privately, and your Google rating rises with only positive reviews.

3. Respond to every review within 24 hours

Google's algorithm rewards responsiveness. Every response counts — even a three-line "Thanks, glad you enjoyed it" on a 5-star review. For 1-star reviews, acknowledge the specific complaint and invite them to email you.

4. Use the guest's name

"Thanks Maria for the kind words" outperforms generic responses by 40% in driving future reviews. It shows future readers you read and care.

5. Reference what they ordered

"Glad you loved the risotto" is specific, human, memorable. Copy-paste responses hurt more than they help.

6. Make review asking a staff ritual

"If you enjoyed it, a Google review helps us a lot" — spoken by the waiter at bill time, right before the digital prompt. Compound effect: the ask is primed, then the QR makes it one tap.

7. Photograph-friendly food

Guests who photograph their food are 4× more likely to leave a review. Design at least 2–3 plates for visual impact — height, color contrast, garnish.

8. Don't respond defensively to criticism

The public response is read by future guests. Even if the criticism is unfair, respond warmly: "We're sorry this didn't meet expectations. We'd love to understand more — could you email us at [address]?"

9. Post-visit email for big parties

For tables of 6+, an automated thank-you email 24 hours later with a review link lifts completion 20–30%. Qoro's post-order system can automate this.

10. Don't buy fake reviews

Ever. Google detects them within weeks. One detected batch tanks your ranking for months. The real playbook is boringly legitimate — and it works.

What to expect

Venues running this playbook see +30–50 new legitimate reviews per month, with average ratings climbing from 4.0 → 4.6+ in 90 days. Foot traffic typically follows with a 2–4 week lag.
